The fig tree and vine are used to represent fruitfulness physically and spiritually. Oftentimes, the vine is used to symbolise spiritual good. For example, in John 15:5, Jesus said "I am the vine, you are the branches." The fig tree is mainly used to refer to natural and physical good. For example, Hosea 9:10 says “When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree.” Also, when Jesus saw a fruitless fig tree, he cursed it.
