Myrrh was an ingredient in the incense Ketoret which was used in the First and Second temples at Jerusalem. It is also an ingredient in the anointing oil used to anoint the tabernacle. Myrrh was also presented as a gift to Jesus at his birth. Bible scholars say since myrrh can also be used for embalmment, this gesture was to signify Jesus death.
