Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. He had stayed the night in Bethany, a village on the southeastern slope of the Mount of Olives. Then he entered Jerusalem and was met by followers who went with him, laying palm branches at his feet. This marked the start of Holy Week leading up to Christ's crucifixion.
