Does It Snow in Israel? - All You Need to Know
Israel has a warm climate on average, so snowfall is largely uncommon in most areas. Here is all you need to know about snowfall in Israel.
Published January 29, 2022.
In Israel, the average temperature fluctuates between the 80's (27°C) and 90's (32°C). These are hot temperatures, and thus it is very uncommon for it to snow in Israel (although it isn't impossible). While snow is few and far between, you might be able to catch a glimmer during the period of December to March - if you are in the right place.
Where Does It Snow in Israel?
The most likely place to see snow in Israel is on Mount Hermon at its ski resort. The high altitude allows for snow to fall here, in the same way, it does in Jerusalem and Safed. Jerusalem sees snow up to 100cm deep and Safed up to 60cm.
When Does It Snow in Israel?
December marks the start of winter, and in some areas in the Golan Heights, snow starts to fall. January and February are the peaks for snowfall, and it begins to taper off in March. The window for snowfall is relatively short, so if you are planning a snowy holiday, you must time it just right.
Does It Snow Enough in Israel to Do Snow Sports?
Yes, it does! The Mount Hermon Ski Resort is open in winter for skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. The resort is open all year round for various other sports, but snow sports can only be done in winter when it snows.
