Is the Church of the Nativity really where Jesus was born?

Hi, I thought Jesus was born in December in a barn in Bethlehem, Jerusalem. But recently, I've been told he was born in the Church of Nativity? Is this church also in Israel? Am I missing a big chunk somewhere in my upbringing?

The Church of the Nativity is a World Heritage Site in Bethlehem. It is believed that this church is built over the site where Jesus was born, although there is no concrete evidence to confirm it to be true. It is now part of the Pilgrimage route that Christians follow through Jerusalem.
