What is the traditional topper for a Christmas tree?

I've noticed that sometimes there is an angel, and sometimes there is a star. What are the traditional Christmas tree toppers and their meanings?

In my culture it is usually a star as a reminder of the Star of Bethlehem. Matthew in his Gospel writes about it and how it was helpful to magis to find a newborn King. I saw angels a few times, as angels celebrating God on the night Jesus was born and this story is from the Gospel of Luke.
