Why is Shakshuka so popular in Israel?

So, I'm curious about the Shakshuka meal. Why is it so popular in Israel? Where did it originate? Does the meal represent anything?

Shakshuka literally means mixed up! It is an easy-to-make, very flavoursome dish eaten for breakfast, lunch or even a light dinner. This popular Israeli dish, traditionally cooked in a cast iron pan, comes in many different versions. Israelis of all ethnic backgrounds eat shakshuka, each adding their own spices and ingredients. Shakshuka probably arrived in Israel with Tunisian-Libyan Jews, or Algerian, or Moroccan Jews. Shakshuka is a bit like Israel - a mix of so many different ethnic groups!
