Israel breakfast Shakshuka recipe

Shakshuka is the quintessential Israeli breakfast. The dish dates back to the early 16th century and is enjoyed at restaurants and homes all over Israel. Ingredients

2 tablespoons Olive oil

1 chopped Onion

2 chopped Bell peppers

5 crushed Garlic cloves

2 tablespoons Shakshuka spice mix

1(28 ounce) can/fresh Diced tomatoes

6-8 Eggs

Pinch of Sweet Paprika

Pinch of Salt

Pinch of pepper

2 tablespoons Chopped parsley

3 tables spoons (optional) Crumbles feta cheese

Instructions

In a large deep skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and bell peppers and cook until softened and beginning to brown, about 7 minutes. Add garlic and cook until tender, 1 to 2 minutes; stir in salt, paprika and pepper, and cook for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and the shakshuka spice, mix everything together and leave to simmer on a low flame for 10-15 minutes (add water as necessary to keep the mixture…)

Cook eggs evenly on top of the sauce for 6 to 8 minutes or until whites are set and yolks are thick but runny (if you like firmer yolks, cook for 1-2 minutes more.) Sprinkle with parsley and feta cheese (optional). Serve with warm bread and ENJOY! Be'teavon!
