In Genesis 13:1-3 we read how Abraham went up from Egypt to the Negev. It is mentioned several more times including Numbers 13:17 when Moses sends scouts to discover the land. Numbers 13:29 says the Amalekites lived in the Negev. Again in Deuteronomy, Joshua, Samuel I, Judges, Chronicles II, Psalm 126:4, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Obadiah, and Zachariah 7:7 the Negev is mentioned.
