What is the significance of Caesarea Philippi in the Bible?

Did Caesarea have any symbolic significance or lesson to portray to the people?

Caesarea Philippi was the site of idol worship and a hub of pagan religious activities. It was here, with a background of pagan temples, that Jesus asked his disciples "Who do you say that I am?" (Matt 16:15). Peter replied: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.
