In the heart of the Holy Land, Israel, amidst the ancient olive groves, lies a sacred tradition and art form - Olive Wood. Olive trees hold a profound connection to Israel, the Holy Land, and the life of Jesus. Olive trees are well-known for their longevity and resilience and have been a staple to the region of Israel for thousands of years, thriving in the rugged landscapes of the Holy Land.
Olive tree and its references in the Bible:
The olive branch is a revered, well-known and historical tree in the bible. The first time the Olive tree was featured in the Bible is in the story of Noah's Ark. In the Book of Genesis, after the floodwaters receded, Noah sent out a dove to find dry land, on the doves' return it brought in its mouth an olive branch signalling that the flood had subsided.
This simple yet powerful symbol of the olive branch represented hope, renewal, and God's promise of peace and restoration. From this moment onwards the olive branch became an enduring emblem of divine mercy and the start of a new life.
In the Bible, Jesus often interacted with the olive tree and its product. The Garden of Gethsemane, This is where Jesus and the disciples prayed the day before the crucifixion. It was one of His favorite places to pray, the place where He made several important prophecies, and the place where he ascended to heaven. This garden, rich with olive trees, became a poignant backdrop for Jesus' final moments of solitude and prayer.
Why is olive wood so special?
Many Biblical scholars are of the opinion that Jesus, being a carpenter by occupation, must have worked with olive wood, which was and still is abundantly available in Bethlehem. So, for a Christian, olive wood products – especially those made from the olive trees in Bethlehem – are extremely special.
Another important reason why olive wood from Bethlehem remains sacred for Christians is that Jesus prayed under an olive tree before He sacrificed Himself on the cross. The fact that He chose to spend the last hours of His life as a mortal under an olive tree makes it all the more significant for Christians.
