Is there a symbolic meaning Behind gold? Where did gold come from in the bible times?

Gold is mentioned for the first time in Genesis 2:10-14. This passage talks about rivers flowing from the garden of Eden. The river Pishon flowed into Havilah, where great quantities of Gold was found. Gold, however, had the same symbolism as today of wealth, power and status. Gold is also compared to the acquiring of knowledge, wisdom and faith in both Old and New Testaments.
