The shepherds were visited by the Angel Gabriel who told them of the birth of the savior. They traveled to Bethlehem and found the Holy family. The shepherds brought Jesus spiritual gifts, they symbolize the common man, and they came to witness the birth of Jesus so they could spread the news of his birth. After they saw Jesus they returned, "glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen."
