According to the history books, the siege of Tyre was orchestrated by Alexander the Great in 320BC. According to Arian, about 8,000 Tyrian civilians were massacred after the city fell. It was hard to defeat Tyre as it was on an island and had walls up to the sea. In order to breach these fortifications, he beseiged Tyre for seven months before building a causeway
