What is the history of Mount Tabor?

It was first referenced in Egyptian writings of the pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC. It is best known in the Old Testament as the location of the victory of the Israelite general Barak over the Canaanite leader Sisera, as inspired by the judge and prophetess Deborah. Mount Tabor is the traditional location of Jesus' Transfiguration, despite the fact that it is not named in the New Testament. In the fourth century AD, the first churches atop the summit were constructed. A Franciscan church and hospice, as well as a Greek Orthodox church, are located at the mountain's peak.
