Hello -
In general, the walls you see today that surround the Old City were constructed (rebuilt) between 1537 and 1541 by Sultan Suleiman I of the Ottoman Empire. There are sections that go back to the time of Jesus and archeologist have uncovered sections of walls that go back even further. Regardless of age, the walls are magnificent.

According to research, the walls of Jerusalem surround the old city of Jerusalem. In 1535, when Jerusalem belonged to the Ottoman Empire, Sultan Suleiman I ordered the reconstruction of the destroyed city walls. The work took about four years, between 1537 and 1541. The east wall is the oldest of the four visible walls of the Temple Mount; the north, west and south walls date from the time of Herod the Great. The west wall dates from approximately the 2nd century BCE although its upper parts were added at a later date.
