Zaatar is the name of a herb, and of a spice mix that contains zaatar, sesame seeds, oregano, thyme, marjoram, and sumac. It can be used to flavor a wide variety of savory dishes. For example, sprinkled on salads, or mixed into meat dishes. In Israel, it is often mixed with olive oil and served with hot pita bread.
