The ram is among the first animals used for sacrifice in the Bible. Their Latin name is "aries" which means "alter". They signify sacrifice.
However, this has a different significance with the ram described in Daniel chapters 7 and 8. In Daniel's vision, he was shown a ram with two horns: with one of the horns higher than the other. This ram was strong for a season until a goat came to eventually destroy it. This ram signifies the Medo-Persian Empire. The higher horn signifies the Persian Empire while the lower horn signifies the Media. This means that the Persian side was greater than the Media. The Medo-Persian Empire dominated the world for 200 years until they were eventually destroyed by the goat (Greecian Empire) in Daniel's prophecy.
