Who is Elizabeth in the birth of Jesus?

Elizabeth was a family member of Jesus's mother Mary. Elizabeth was past the age of having children when the angel Gabriel approached her husband with the message that she will fall pregnant with a boy. They had to name this boy John, who in later life would baptise Jesus.
