Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem on a donkey instead of a horse?

Asked 4 years ago

He entered Jerusalem on a donkey in Matthew 21:4-5 and John 12:14-15. For what reason did he choose a donkey? Why not a horse or sitting on a wagon with the donkey pulling it?

The passage John 12:12-19 tells us when the disciples realized that Jesus riding on the donkey is the fulfilment of the prophecy, as written in Zechariah 9:9. Stating that the king of Zion will come riding on a colt. Riding a horse or wagon would not have fulfilled the prophecy.
