Why Was the Galilee Important to Jesus?

Jesus spent most of his life in the Galilee, and the region of Galilee features prominently in the Bible. This post goes on to explain why this place is so significant.

Jesus Relation to Galilee

Jesus's Earthly parents, Mary and Joseph were from Nazareth in the Galilee. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Nazareth learning the carpentry trade from his father, studying, and teaching about God. When he was about 30-years-old Jesus left the Galilee for the Judaean Desert where he met John the Baptist.

Why Jesus Went Back to the Galilee

John baptised Jesus in the Jordan River, then Jesus went into the Judaean Desert for 40 days and nights of contemplation and fasting. There he resisted the Devil's temptations. After his time in the desert, Jesus returned to begin his Galilee ministry led by the Spirit of God (Luke 3:23).

What Jesus Did in the Galilee

Christ's Galilee ministry was a period spent traveling from village to village, spreading the word of God and performing more than 40 miracles.

The Significance of the Galilee

According to the Bible, the Galilee was where Jesus felt at home. This is where he grew up, where his ministry began - away from the Roman authorities in Jerusalem - and where he performed many miracles. The Galilee remains one of the most beautiful regions in Israel, rich in Christian landmarks and history.
