In the Bible, the name Nimrod was mentioned in Genesis 10:8-9. The Bible described him as "a mighty one in the earth" and "a mighty hunter before the Lord." Nimrod is believed to have lived on this height (Northern Golan, on a ridge about 800m above sea level), according to local tradition. The castle is believed to have been built in the same location where Nimrod lived, hence it was named after him and called Nimrod's Fortress.
