Where is tahini from originally?

Asked 3 years ago

It looks like Tahini comes from Israel, but does it? I know that their cuisine is a Middle Eastern mix and probably has so much history behind it. So, I'm intrigued to know if Tahini is native to Israel or if it stems from another influence.

Tahini is originally from Persia and is called Ardeh. It has later been used and made a staple food in Israel and the Middle East. For centuries only the elite and rich people could obtain the ingredients to make tahini. It was also used as currency in some cultures.
