We cannot say for sure why Jesus Christ went to Caesarea Philippi, but we do know that Caesarea Philippi wasn't a densely populated area, it could be that Jesus Christ wanted a relatively quiet place so he could have some alone time with his disciples. Secondly, a remarkable event happened at Caesarea Philippi (which wasn't one of the most popular towns at that time). This could just be God following one of his principles of choosing "lowly things of this world and the despised things" (1 Corinthians 1:27-29). Thirdly, some statements made in Caesarea Philipi corresponded to the description and history of the place:
1. Jesus made the statement, "upon this rock, I will build my church," Caesarea Philippi was a rocky place.
2. "..and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it," a site as Caesara Philippi was the place of worship of the Greek God Pan and was named 'the gate of hell.'
