The old covenant presents two parts: the law and the promise.

The law is a series of commandments (Exodus 13) to the Israelites on how they should live their lives to please God. The laws of the old covenant came with both blessings and curses as displayed in Deuteronomy chapter 28.

On the other hand, the promise is the Messiah (Jesus Christ) who came to die for us to redeem us from the curses of the law. Galatians 3:13 says "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"
