Is the new covenant the same as the old covenant?

Old Covenant: Agreement between God and the Hebrews in the Old Testament. If they follow the commandments, God promises them prosperity and protection.
New Covenant: Agreement between God and the followers of Jesus in the New Testament. If they fully accept Christ into their lives and abide by his laws, they will get redemption.
